MAÀT

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Ma’at is the goddess who personifies the concepts of balance, harmony, truth, order, wisdom and integrity. Egyptians believed that without Ma’at there would be primal chaos, ending the world.
In art, Ma’at is depicted as a woman with wings, with an ostrich feather as her headdress. The ostrich feather is her symbol.
Ma’at was judge at the Egyptian underworld. The hearts of the dead were weighed against the Feather of Ma’at to determine whether the deceased was worthy of the kingdom of Osiris. If the heart weighed the same as Ma’at, the deceased moved on to the afterlife. A heart which was unworthy was devoured by the demon, Amit.
